Audra McDonald, Kelli O'Hara, Celia Keenan-Bolger & More Join HBO's The Gilded Age

Broadway bingewatch alert! Stage stars galore have joined HBO's previously announced period drama The Gilded Age. Deadline reports that Tony winners Audra McDonald, Kelli O’Hara, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Donna Murphy, Katie Finneran and Michael Cerveris as well as Tony nominees John Douglas Thompson and Kristine Nielsen are set to appear in the series.

As previously reported, the series also features stage-and-screen greats Christine Baranski and Cynthia Nixon as well as Tony nominees Carrie Coon and Denée Benton. The Gilded Age comes from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, who is also the Tony-nominated librettist of School of Rock. The nine-part series centers on the orphaned daughter of a Southern general who moves in with her aunts Agnes van Rhijn and Ada Brook (Baranski and Nixon, respectively) in 1880s New York City and is thrust into high society.

McDonald, who earned her ninth Tony Award nomination for her performance in Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, will play Dorothy Scott, the wife of a powerful man and the backbone of her family. The Tony-winning revival of Chicago opened 24 years ago on Broadway on November 14. Though the razzle-dazzle show is not playing at the Ambassador Theatre due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the spirit of the Kander and Ebb sizzler is still strong. Over 150 performers and musicians from across the globe reunited remotely for a rousing performance of the opening number "All That Jazz." Bringing together former Broadway, West End and international tour company members, the number includes Ute Lemper, Sally Ann Triplett, Debbie Kurup, Bonnie Langford, Sue Kelvin, Ian Kelsey, Michael Greco, David Hasselhoff, Annette McLaughlin, Gaby Roslin, and many more. Tracy Letts' The Minutes Shifts Broadway Return to Spring 2022

As a result of the shutdown caused by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Tracy Letts' Pulitzer-finalist drama The Minutes will now return to Broadway in 2022. It had previously announced the show would resume preview performances on March 1, 2021. The Minutes, which began its run at the Cort Theatre on February 25 and was scheduled to open on March 15, 2021. It will now resume on March 15, 2022, exactly two years after the originally planned opening night date. The production's set will be loaded out of the Cort Theatre on November 16 to make way for the theater's previously planned renovation and the construction at the adjacent property.

Tony-winning playwright/performer Letts starred in the political comedy on Broadway, alongside Jessie Mueller, Armie HammerBlair BrownIan Barford, Sally Murphy, K. Todd Freeman, Austin Pendleton, Cliff Chamberlain, Danny McCarthy and Jeff Still. By confirming the new performance return date, the producers are hopeful that they will be able to maintain the cast.
