2020 Out100 List Includes Broadway Stars
Out Magazine has announced the lineup of influencers listed among its 2020 Out100. A slew of theater-related honorees fill out the slate, including two-time 2019 Tony Award nominee and Hollywood Emmy nominee Jeremy Pope, stage and screen fave Cheyenne Jackson, The Prom film star Jo Ellen Pellman, two-time Tony winner Joe Mantello, Broadway alum Keke Palmer and more. Keala Settle Joins John Stamos-Led Series
Tony nominee Keala Settle will join Disney+’s upcoming original series Big Shot. The show stars Broadway alum John Stamos as a temperamental college basketball coach who gets fired from his job and must take a teaching and coaching job at an elite all-girls private high school. The cast also includes Jessalyn Gilsig, Emery Kelly, Yvette Nicole Brown, Richard Robichaux, Sophia Mitri Schloss, Nell Verlaque, Monique Green, Tisha Custodio and Cricket Wampler.

Kirstin Maldonado Joins Deborah Cox and Norm Lewis in Chicago's Children of Eden

Pentatonix's Kirstin Maldonado is set to join Deborah Cox and Norm Lewis in Stephen Schwartz and John Caird's Children of Eden. The musical, which was originally announced to play in Chicago in summer 2020, will now play at Chicago's Arcada Theatre in August 2021. Brenda Didier will direct and co-choreograph the show.

Maldonado will play Yonah. She made her Broadway debut as Lauren in the Tony-winning musical Kinky Boots and has won three Grammy Awards as a member of the a capella group Pentatonix. Lewis, who was most recently seen on Broadway as Agwe in Once on this Island, will play Father with Cox as Eve/Mama Noah. Award-winning gospel artist David Phelps and America’s Got Talent finalist Brian Justin Crum will also appear as Adam/Noah and Cain/Japheth, respectively.

Based on the Biblical book of Genesis, Children of Eden provides a unique telling of the story of creation through the epic tale of Noah and the flood.

In addition to Didier, the creative team features co-choreographer Christopher Carter, music director Jermaine Hill, choral director Tom Vendafredo, lighting designer Alexander Ridgers, set designer Jeff Kmiec, projection designer Kevan Loney, puppet designer Brandon Hardy and orchestrators Bruce Coughlin and Martin Erskine.

Ethan Hawke, John Leguizamo, Brandon Victor Dixon & More Set for New Group Off Stage Projects

An exciting roster of stars have been tapped for the New Group's upcoming slate of project for its Off Stage initiative. Different media will be used for these theatrical pieces, which will be presented by the New Group in association with John Ridley’s Nō Studios. The projects are scheduled to begin production and filming in early 2021 and will be available as they are completed throughout the year.

New Group Artistic Director Scott Elliott will helm a production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, starring Ethan Hawke as Vladimir, John Leguizamo as Estragon, Wallace Shawn as Lucky, Tarik Trotter as Pozzo and Drake Bradshaw as Boy.

What I Did For Love, directed by documentary filmmaker Alexandra Shiva and Elliott, follows a group of New York theater folk, led by Elliott and Edie Falco, who, missing their work and each other so terribly, can’t help but turn their lives upside down in order to rehearse Thomas Bradshaw’s timely take on Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull. This meta mashup of play and process tells the tale of this incredibly fraught but vibrant moment in time.

Laura Benanti's self-titled album, which was released on October 23, is full of reimagined standards like "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk," "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?", "The Boy From...," "The Party's Over" and more. The Tony winner has released a stunning new music video to accompany the track "Go Slow." "It was an honor to take on this iconic song with this remarkable group of musicians. The arrangement by Gil Goldstein is so lush and Matt Pierson’s production is sensitive and musical," Benanti said in a statement. "Our director Stephanie Stylander and I wanted the video to evoke a woman languishing in her memories, a woman who has unapologetically lived her life and reminds us of the beauty of women at any age." The Prom Soundtrack Wear Your CrownListen to this new girl-power anthem featuring vocals by Meryl Streep, Ariana DeBose, Jo Ellen Pellman, Kerry Washington, and Nicole Kidman.

The Prom, is set to be released for streaming on Netflix starting December 11, 2020. The movie is directed by Ryan Murphy and is based on the Broadway musical of the same name.

The star-studded cast features Meryl Streep as Dee Dee Allen, James Corden as Barry Glickman, Nicole Kidman as Angie Dickinson, and Andrew Rannells as Trent. Newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman will play Emma, and Ariana DeBose will play Alyssa.

The original Broadway musical features music by Matthew Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin, and a book by Bob Martin and Beguelin. Murphy has previously shared that the entire song list from Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin’s original score made it into the movie.
