The Inheritance's Jake Odmark on Earning His New Yorker Badge of Honor During COVID-19

Living near the theater district during the Broadway shutdown, photographer and performer Matthew Stocke has been haunted walking past the empty palaces sitting in repose, waiting for the lights and stars to return. In this new Broadway.com photo feature, he reunites members of the theater community with their Broadway home #AwayFromHome.

THE INHERITANCE

Jake Odmark was preparing for the final weekend of The Inheritance; Matthew Lopez's groundbreaking two-part play had announced its final performance date for March 15, but that day would never come. Broadway began its shutdown on March 12, cutting The Inheritance's run short. Having previously appeared in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, Kinky Boots and Pretty Woman, The Inheritance marked Odmark's first Broadway play, where he worked as an understudy for four different character tracks. Odmark spoke to Broadway.com about the "badge of honor" he has for staying in New York City, the shift he's seen in humanity and how the show's heart is still beating on Broadway.

Tony Winners Chuck Cooper, Judy Kaye & More Set for The Theatre Will Survive Benefit

Me and My Girl's Chuck Cooper is on the scene.

Broadway may still be on pause, but theater fans can listen to a brand new tune featuring a variety of stage favorites. Tony winners Chuck Cooper, Judy Kaye, Faith Prince, Paulo Szot and more are set to appear in The Theatre Will Survive—A Benefit for The Actors Fund, a new video premiering on August 31 at 7PM ET. The new song features lyrics by Michael Colby and music and orchestrations by Ned Paul Ginsburg. A live talk-back with the cast and creative team will take place after the video debut.

The video also features Christine Andreas, Sarah Uriarte Berry, Christina Bianco, Robert Cuccioli, Marc De la Cruz, George Dvorsky, Anita Gillette, Jason Graae, Ann Harada, Leah Hocking, Richard Jay-Alexander, Jeff Keller, Eddie Korbich, Michael McCormick, N’Kenge, Barry Pearl, Gabriella Pizzolo, Stephanie Pope, Courtney Reed, T. Oliver Reid, Steve Rosen, Jennifer Sanchez, Analise Scarpaci, Tony Sheldon and Ryan Silverman.

Tony nominees Jenn Colella and Lilli Cooper are among the stars set to appear in an online benefit concert of Soldiergirls on August 31 at 7PM ET. Presented by Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, the new musical features a book and lyrics by Em Weinstein and music by Emily Johnson-Erday. The company will also include Chilina Kennedy, Ezra Menas, Melanie Field, Jessie Shelton, Anna Crivelli, Danielle Chaves, Hannah Van Sciver and Madeleine Barker. Using real letters and collages, Soldiergirls looks at love, liberation and lesbianism in the Women’s Army Corps in World War II.
